Audio/Visual Supervisor

Now Hiring: Northlight Theatre is now hiring a full-time, year-round Audio/Visual Supervisor. Working under
the supervision of the Production Manager, the A/V Supervisor is head of the A/V Department and is
responsible for implementing and maintaining all sound and projection design elements from pre-production
through strike, including running the shows. This person manages any A/V staff, overhire, and subcontractors,
as well as maintains all departmental work areas and A/V inventory.

Northlight Theatre aspires to promote change of perspective and encourage compassion by exploring the
depth of our humanity across a bold spectrum of theatrical experiences, reflecting our community to the world
and the world to our community. A professional LORT D theatre located in Skokie, Illinois, programming
includes a 5-play mainstage season, the Interplay new play development series, and a dynamic year-round
audience engagement and education program. Construction is currently underway on a new theatre in
Evanston, where Northlight will relocate in the summer of 2026. For more information about the theatre:

Qualifications: Must have previous experience as a sound engineer. Requires knowledge of theatrical sound systems including mixing consoles, graphic equalizers, amplifiers, microphones, speakers, monitors, QLab, projectors, common projection software, and basic cabling. Must be able to read a sound plot and able to troubleshoot sound problems. Must have hands-on familiarity with standard theatrical sound equipment and wiring. Requires knowledge of projection equipment and associated programs. Must be able to climb the grid to work on sound equipment as needed. Must be able to lift 35+ pounds and have a valid driver’s license.

Compensation: Compensation range is $40,000 to $43,000, competitive with prevailing compensation for similar positions within the non-profit performing arts industry, and commensurate with qualifications and experience of the applicant. This position is eligible for benefits including medical, dental and vision insurance and paid time off. Collaborative environment with close involvement with the art and artists.

North Shore Center

The North Shore Center for the Performing Arts, the facility in which Northlight is located, offers part-time positions in Box Office, Security, Operations, and Bartending. Visit their page for current opportunities.

Equity Principal Auditions for Northlight Theatre are scheduled annually through the Actors’ Equity Association. Specific scheduling and more information regarding our EPA auditions will be posted on the AEA website.

Each summer, Northlight Theatre offers high school students a paid opportunity to get first hand experience at working in a professional theater office environment. Students will work with staff and better understand the day-to-day and back-end operations. Northlight will also provide opportunities for the students to interview staff to gain knowledge of various components of the organization.

Please note that this is not a performance opportunity. Students might be able to observe some rehearsal and attend a performance, but the scope of this opportunity does not include any actual acting.

However, in an effort to support the local artistic community, we do accept unsolicited ten-page samples exclusively from writers living in Illinois. Before submitting material, we strongly encourage you to read our mission statement, research our production history, and/or see a production here in order to acquire a sense of Northlight’s interests and aesthetic.
